π Compensation Court Ngaruawahia - W Searancke, Resident Magistrate, Ngaruawahia, Waikato, November 16th 1867 to The Hon Mr Richmond, Native Minister, Wellington - stating that he had seen Mr Lewis Hettet, a European living at Orahiri, who informed Mr Searancke that Tamati Ngapora, uncle to Matutaera had visted to meet Mr C Davis, the Interpreter of Auckland, but that he had missed their letter and gone on to Taupo, and that Tamati, Rewi and others of the Old Natives were willing to come to Auckland after speaking with Mr Davis, that they were aware of the dangers of the Hauhau actions and that they woud not reply to the letter sent from the seat of Government to Matutaera until they had met with Mr Davis.
