Accident Reports are restricted for 100 years from date of birth or 50 years after date of death, whichever is sooner.
To gain access to these records proof confirming a date of birth or death outside the stated restriction periods, or written permission from the access contact, will be required.
Please note that there are some difficulties in identifying birth or death dates from these files. As such, where this information has not been identified, alternative dates e.g. date of file closure have been used as the means for identifying the end of the period of restriction.
As the transferring agency was disestablished in 1999, it has not yet been determined which agency is now responsible for granting access to restricted records. Written permission should be sought from Archives New Zealand.
