Insolvency files fall into two categories - bankruptcy, in the case of an individual, and liquidation, in the case of an incorporation (for example a company).
This series of records contains both bankruptcy and liquidation files, but whereas bankruptcy files are restricted (see below), liquidation files are not restricted.
In most cases bankruptcy files can be distinguished from liquidation files by their file title on the list. For example 'SMITH, Ann' is a bankruptcy file whereas 'The A1 Motor Company' is a liquidation file.
Bankruptcy files and lists are restricted for 70 years from date of closure. All files in series 7606 W5008 are restricted for 70 years from date of file closure. Series 7606 in accessions W5098, and W5619 contains both bankruptcies and liquidation files, all files have either a (B) or an (L) appended after the file title. Series 7606 accession W5414 also contains both bankruptcies and liquidation files, however there are no annotations as to whether the files are bankruptcies or liquidations.
