The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) Gisborne Office was under the regional control of the Palmerston North MAF Office. In 1972 the office consisted of an Animal Industry Dairy Farm, Advisory Horticulture Divisions and the Manutuke Research Station.
In 1987 the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries ,Gisborne Office was subdivided into the following busiiness divisions  MAFCorp, MAFQual, MAFTech and MAFFish. Regional control for MAFCorp, MAFQual and  MAFTech was transferred to the Batchelar Agricultural Centre. The regional office for MAFFish was the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Auckland Office.
Functions:
MAFCorp- provides the systems and structures essential to the efficient operation of MAF’s business groups and Head Office units.
MAFFish- manages the commercial, recreational, traditional fisheries resources, including research and compliance with fisheries polices.
MAFQual- provides quality management systems for the marketing of animal, fish and foods.It was renamed MAF Quality Management
MAFTech- provides research and consultancy services.
In 1992  MAFTech was split into six Crown Research Institutes, staff from this division were transferred into the Institute of Crop and Food Research, Hastings Office or Landcare Gisborne. 
In 1995 following legislative changes the  office became the Ministry of Agriculture, Gisborne Office. 
In 1998  the Ministry of Agriculture, Gisbore Office was disestablished.
