[history] => The New Zealand Constabulary (Police) Force Station of Newmarket was established in 1882. Police stations were responsible for local policing, with functions including investigation of criminal activities, detection and apprehension of offenders, and maintenance of law and order.
On 1st July 1992, as a direct result of the amalgamation of the Police and the Traffic Safety Service of the Ministry of Transport, New Zealand Police moved the record-keeping function from their station at Newmarket to the former traffic building at 111 Great South Road, Greenlane. In 2008 there was still a Police station operating at Newmarket.
