	Tangoio School provided primary education for the children of Tangoio settlement located north of Napier in the Hawkes Bay Provincial District. Classes at Tangoio Native School commenced in 1902. Later in 1947 the school was renamed Tangoio Maori School. In 1962 the school came under control of the Hawkes Bay Education Board was renamed Tangoio School.

	By the early 1960s Tangoio School had a thriving roll of 61 pupils under the charge of two teachers. However, a devastating flood in the Tangoio Valley in 1963 led to many local people moving out of the area. The local Council restricted any new housing construction in the flood prone valley. There was also a general shift of families from rural areas such as Tangoio to towns and cities. School roll numbers fell to a total of 16 pupils in 1973. Tangoio School was closed on 10 May 1974. Existing pupils moved to Eskdale and Tareha Schools.
