	Assessment Courts were established under the Rating Act 1876 for the purposes of hearing and determining all objections to the property valuation lists for each district.

	The local Magistrate was to be the judge at the Assessment Court and the clerk at the local Magistrate's Court was to serve as the clerk of the Assessment Court as well.

	The Court had the power to summon and examine witnesses and order the payment of reasonable costs.
