The Post Office performed a wide variety of functions on behalf of the Crown, including the provision of postal, telegraphic, telephone and banking services. Mohaka Post Office was opened on 1 July 1859 and closed on 31 March 1876.
A Telegram office was opened at Upper Mohaka on 25 June 1900 and closed on 9 December 1900.
Upper Mohaka Post Office was opened on 10 December 1900 and closed on 28 April 1905.  The Upper Mohaka Post Office was renamed Te Haroto Post Office and opened on 14 December 1905.
The Mohaka Maori registration district was opened on 1 May 1923 and closed 31 December 1961. 

It is uncertain whether the Mohaka registration district records were held solely by Wairoa Magistrates Court or by Mohaka Post Office and subsequently Wairoa Magistrates Court.
