            [history] => The origins of the National Resource Centre for Adult Education and Community Learning (NRC) began with the National Council of Adult Education (NCAE). Established in 1938 the primary duty of the NCAE was to co-ordinate the activities of organisations concerned with adult education and generally to promote adult education. 

In 1987 an Advisory Group set up by the Minister of Education recommended that the NCAE be disestablished and a National Resource Centre (NRC) be established in its place. 

This recommendation was implemented with the Education Amendment Act 1990. The legal mechanism for administration was the National Resource Trust, a registered Charitable Trust. 

In 1990 the NRC identified the following aims: 

· Promote and assist the adult and non-formal learning needs of the community 
· Collect and distribute information and resources 
· Act as a network centre for people and groups involved in adult and community learning 
· Set up and monitor research and help groups with their own research projects 
· Accommodate national community learning organisations.

The origins of the National Resource Centre for Adult Education and Community Learning (NRC) began with the National Council of Adult Education (NCAE). Established in 1938 the primary duty of the NCAE was to co-ordinate the activities of organisations concerned with adult education and generally to promote adult education.

In 1987 an Advisory Group set up by the Minister of Education recommended that the NCAE be disestablished and a National Resource Centre (NRC) be established in its place.
