Early Life:

Margaret Moir, QSO, was born in Kimberly, South Africa on 9th September 1941. 

Leading up to her career in politics, she worked as a businesswoman in Hokitika with her husband.

Politics:

Prior to entering into Parliament, Moir served as the Elected Chairman of the West Coast Regional Council. 

In 1990 Moir was elected as the Member of Parliament for the West Coast Electorate by a landslide, a victory she attributed to her "West Coast first, National second" policy. Moir was one of six one-term National MP's elected in the 1990 election.

Moir was unsuccessful as a list candidate in the 1996 election. 

After Politics: 

After leaving Parliament, Margaret Moir served as the director of Timberlands West Coast Limited and Met Service, both state owned enterprises. 

She also worked as the Treasurer for Amy Adam's electorate Office. 

Awards: 

In 1993, Moir was awarded the New Zealand Suffreage Centenial Medal. 

During the 1995 Queens Birthday Honours she was also appointed as a Companion of the Queen's Service Order for Public Service.
