	Prior to 1946, files documenting functions which could not be carried out at a suboffice level were maintained in the Auckland office.



	When the Hamilton office was upgraded in 1946, these files were transferred to Hamilton. The series and holdings dates post date the closure of the Works agency as Transit New Zealand, DOSLI and Land Information New Zealand added papers to some of the files during the years of their control of the records.
