The Protected Areas Scientific Advisory Committee was an interdisciplinary scientific committee established in 1985 to advise the Forest Service and Lands and Survey Department on protected natural areas, and to recommend reserves for scientific purposes on all Crown lands (see AJHR C3 1986-78). The Committee comprised nine members from key Government and non-Government agencies dealing with forestry, land use and environmental issues, and included representatives from the following: Forest Research Institute, Wildlife Service (DIA), DSIR Botany Division, DSIR Soil Division, Lincoln College Soil Science Faculty, Victoria University Zoology Department and the New Zealand Forest Service. The Committee replaced the State Forests Scientific Reserves Advisory Committee which had acted in an advisory role to the Forest Service for its ecological areas programme. The Committee does not appear to have survived beyond 1987 and the Government Select Committee review of QUANGOS. 

These unregistered files and loose papers have been placed into twelve envelopes. Two of the envelopes contain general material - minutes of meetings, policies and principles. The other ten contain material relating to specific meetings of PASAC. The numbers in the item descriptions refer to the number of the meeting.
