	This series consists of Wellington regional office inquest reports, retained because the Head Office originals were destroyed after having been microfilmed, and also because they contain some documentation not found on the Head Office files.  Outside this period, Wellington reports will be found in the Head Office sequence (series 17298).

	Files typically contain a P47 police report for the coroner, a copy of a pathologists report, and form giving details of the death.

		Coroners reports and files dating up to and including 1978 are restricted for 50 years from date of registration to protect personal privacy.


	(For example a file registered in 1940 becomes open in 1991)

	

		Coroners reports and files dating from 1979 to 30 June 2007 are restricted for 70 years from date of registration to protect personal privacy.


	

		Coronial records (excluding indexes and registers referred to below) dating from the implementation of the Coroners Act 2006 (1 July 2007) onwards are restricted for 100 years from the date of file closure as many records contain highly sensitive medical information.
