	From 2010, the Dunedin Branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists listed individual applications up to 1900 by name for access on Archway. Applications after 1900 are accessible through the Application and Mining Privilege Registers created by each Warden's Court. Applications were grouped together, rather than being separated out by type (tail races, water races, residence sites, etc.).

	These files contained all the documentation relating to applications for mining privileges registered at the Queenstown Warden's Court.  Applications had to be filed on forms prescribed in regulations issued under various mining acts.  The following is a list of application types:

	

		Application for Licence for Tail-race (or Main Tail-race)
	

		Application for Certificate of Protection
	

		Application for Licence for residence-site (or Specified Business-site)
	

		Application for Water-race
	

		Application for Licence for a Claim
	

		Application for Licence for a Dam
	

		Application for Amalgamation of Claims
	

		Application to Surrender Mining Privilege absolutely


	The application files could contain some or all of the following items -

	

		Plan showing extent of application
	

		Objections
	

		Correspondence
	

		Summons for Witness to appear
	

		Copy of Issued Licence


	Once an application was lodged it was entered into the Register of Applications (series 20884) and then heard by the Warden. If the application was successful then a license was issued.  A number of the files also have copies of the registered license attached to them.

	There were a number of transfers, liens for wages and memorials of encumbrances filed in with the application series throughout the years.

	Applications for agricultural leases and timber licenses were also held in this series.

	Some of the applications from the 1860s were addressed to the Warden at Charleston.
